【Objective】The purpose of the study was to screen high yield and fine quality rapeseed varieties suitable for planting in areas where land is only utilized for the production of single mid-season rice, vis-à-vis to utilize those land resources in Liuzhou, Guangxi (China). 【Method】Eleven rapeseed varieties having low erucic acid and glucosinolate content along with a control variety Huayou 3 were planted in field in randomized block design with three replicates. The agronomic traits, incidence of disease (sclerotinia) and stress resistance (lodging), yield and some other parameters were investigated. 【Result】The duration of growth and maturity stages of all the tested rapeseed varieties were found longer than the control. Except in the variety Meiguoyouwang 999, the uniformity in growth vigor was found very well in all the varieties at seedling, bolting and maturity stages. Chuanyou 18, Zhongshuang 8 and Meiguoyouwang 999 showed strong lodging resistance, while the others were weak or moderate. The weight of 1000-seed in varieties Chuanyou 18 and Chuanshenyou 41 was found highest (4.06 and 3.87 g, respectively). The varieties Chuanyou 18, Guoshenyuyou 5, Mianyouza 11, Chuanshenyou 41 and Zhongzayou 8 showed higher yields compared to the others. 【Conclusion】The results indicated that five varieties, viz., Chuanyou 18, Mianyouza 11, Chuanshenyou 41, Guoshenyuyou 5 and Zhongzayou 8 performed well in the test, and may be recommended for winter cropping in mid-season rice planting areas.
