【Objective】The present research was conducted to meet diversified consumption demands via selecting a new variety of yam （Dioscorea oppositaThunb.） with good fertility， higher starch content， nice taste and wider adaptability. 【Method】Elite bred plants were selected from germplasm resource nursery and crop fields， and investigated for traits of vegetative propagation during early， middle and late growth periods from December， 2008-2011. 【Result】On March 28th， 2012， “Guihuai 7” was approved by Guangxi Crop Variety Approval Committee due to its high yield， high starch content， rich nutrients， wide-spread adaptability and strong resistance. 【Conclusion】“Guihuai 7” was recommended for planting in southern parts of Yangtze River.
