【Objective】The feasibility of planting Panax notoginseng (Burk.) F.H.Chen was investigated in low elevation forests of Wuzhou (Guangxi) in order to expand Panax notoginseng plantations in this area. 【Method】The experiments were conducted in low elevation forest fields to investigate seedling emergence, budding, flowering, disease and insect pest incidences, yield and quality of Panax notoginseng. The heavy metal content and pesticide residues in soils of low elevation forest were also analyzed. 【Result】Seedling emergence rate, budding rate and flowering rate of Panax notoginseng were observed as high as 96, 88 and 90%, respectively. The rates of disease and insect pest incidence were found lower than 0.57 and 0.72%, respectively. The average yield was recorded as 2526 kg/ha, and the quality indices were found at par with Quality Standard of Pharmacopoeia, People’s Republic of China(2010 Edition), the limit of heavy metals and the content of pesticide residues were found good enough to meet Green Trade Standards of Importing & Exporting Medicinal Plants & Preparations(WM/T 2-2004). 【Conclusion】Results showed that it was feasible to plant Panax notoginseng in low elevation forest areas of Wuzhou.
