【Objective】The present experiment was conducted to find out the optimum planting density for 3 different types of fresh edible waxy corn in order to optimize their production practices. 【Method】Two-factor split-plot design experiment was conducted to study the major agronomic characteristics, viz., growth period, plant height, ear length and yield using five planting densities (42000, 48000, 54000, 60000 and 66000 plants/ha) and three varieties (Jingkenuo 2000, Dushiliren and Yumeitou 601). 【Result】The results showed that ear length, ear diameter, rows per ear, kernels per row and 1000-kernel weight reduced gradually with increasing the planting density, while barren ear tip, plant height and ear height increased gradually, and growth period extended slightly. Three corn varieties, viz., Jingkenuo 2000 (high-stalk type maize), Dushiliren (dwarf type maize) and Yumeitou 601 (compact type maize) recorded the highest yield as 12787.7, 10473.0 and 12214.4 kg/ha when planted with 48000, 60000 and 54000 plants/ha planting density, respectively. 【Conclusion】It was concluded that 48000-54000, 54000-60000 and 54000-60000 plants/ha were suitable planting density for varieties Jingkenuo 2000, Dushiliren and Yumeitou 601, respectively.
