【Objective】With the aim of providing decision-making guidance for competent administrative departments, this paper presented the current status of quality-safety inspection and detection system for agricultural products in Guangxi. 【Methods】In 2008, the investigations were carried out in the administration departments of agriculture, food & drug, quarantine, animal husbandry and aquaculture, industry and commerce of four cities including Nanning, Liuzhou, Baise, Qinzhou, five counties and three towhships. Onsite investigations were conducted in agricultural food markets, wholesale markets and four vegetable bases. 【Results】Some of the problems existing in the current system were identified as absence of a proper assessment institute, personnel and fund shortage, absence of advanced inspection equipment, low detection capacity, unstable detection results, inconsistent detection results between different departments and absence of specific detection system for exogenous plant hormones, etc. 【Conclusion】It is concluded that more efforts should be made to improve infrastructure and detection network, to hire more people and ensure more capital to set up a venture fund for detection in order to promote the development of inspection & detection system for agricultural products in Guangxi. In the meantime, qualification and measurement should be certified and practicing standardized production system should be strengthened. Additionally, detection of exogenous plant hormones needs to be standardized for unified production.
