【Objective】The present experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different medicaments on post-harvest preservation of cut roses in order to enhance their vase life and improve fresh-keeping quality, and to develop an appropriate preservation technique. 【Method】Effects of different medicament were observed on the vase life, fresh weight, flower diameter and water balance in cut roses (variety Rosita Vendela). Further, the physiological effects of different medicaments on aging of cut roses were analyzed. 【Results】All six medicaments enhanced the vase life of cut roses compared to the control. Amongst different treatments, the longest vase life duration of cut roses was observed in 0.1% NaCl treatment (18 d), followed by 50 mg/L 8-HQ(16 d) and 50 mg/L CA(16 d), 50 mg/L SA(14 d) and 0.5% CaCl2(14 d), and 0.1% Vc(12 d). It was observed that 0.1% NaCl significantly enhanced the vase life of cut roses. The vase life was significantly correlated with the changes in fresh weight, flower diameter and water balance of cut roses. 【Conclusion】The vase life of cut roses may be enhanced by using six medicaments in order to increase their ornamental and economic value.
