【Objective】The present experiment was conducted to study the genetic diversity and relationship amongst different Gerbera jamesonii cultivars in order to screen parents for hybrid breeding. 【Method】Inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) molecular markers were used to assess the genetic diversity amongst 22 G. jamesonii cultivars using 100 ISSR primers and cluster analysis was performed. 【Result】Out of 100 primers, 9 primers were selected and 139 reproducible DNA bands were amplified, of which 127 bands (91.37%) were polymorphic. The coefficient of genetic similarity in different cultivars ranged from 0.5909 to 0.8889 with an average of 0.7230, showing that there was wide genetic diversity amongst different cultivars. Unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA) was used to draw a dendrogram, according to which the cultivars were clustered into four groups, and the first group could be divided into two subgroups. 【Conclusion】Wide genetic diversity amongst 22 G. jamesonii cultivars has been observed. Further, the morphological characteristics studies revealed that the color of petals and corolla may be used in preliminary classification and analysis of genetic relationship amongst various G. jamesonii cultivars.
