【Objective】The study was made to investigate the biological characteristics of Basilepta fulvipes fed on leaves and fruits of banana (Musa spp.) in order to develop scientific measures for its control. 【Method】From 2009 to 2011, the biological charateristics of B. fulvipes were studied by laboratory breeding and systematic field investigations. 【Result】Mating of B. fulvipes could be observed during late March and early April with 5 generations and overlapping generation each year in Nanning (Guangxi). The eggs were laid in about 10-15 mm loosen soil in banana rhizosphere. Adult B. fulvipes fed on unexpanded young leaves of banana and its young pericarp, which severely affected the photosynthesis and the quality and commodity value of banana fruits. 【Suggestion】The following measures for controlling B. fulvipes were recommended:(1)Removal of useless sucker plants, dead leaves and false stem of banana, and weeds in order to worsen the habitat of B. fulvipes;(2)Artificial killing according to the feign death habit of B. fulvipes;(3)Control and prevention of B. fulvipes alternatively by using chemical control agents.
