【Objective】The present experiment was conducted to comprehensively compare and appraise quality of indica rice resources introduced from the IRRI for their effective use in breeding programs. 【Method】The principal component and cluster analysis of main agronomic traits of 118 indica rice resources were carried out using DPS software. 【Result】The results showed that the six major factors, viz., grain shape, grain weight, grain length, seed setting, plant height and maturity contributed to 85.1973% cumulative rate in trait variation in the principal component analysis. Based on principal component vectors, 118 introduced materials were grouped into 3 major types. The first group containing 34 materials was characterized by dwarf stems, multiple panicles and long-grains, the second one containing 49 materials had long stem and long panicles, and showed late maturity and less tillering. The third group containing 35 materials was characterized by semi-dwarf stem, small panicle size, high seed setting and early maturity. 【Conclusion】The principal component and other information may be used for cluster analysis of major factors for more effective use of introduced germplasm resources.
