【Objective】The present experiment was conducted to indentify and select new sweet potato varieties suitable for planting in east Fujian(Ningde) area. 【Method】Regional trial of sweet potato varieties was undertaken in Ningde, Fujian (China) during 2010. The yield of fresh and dry tuber, starch yield and dry matter content, flour yield taste value, appearance and quality and disease resistance of 11 sweet potato varieties were compared with the control variety Jinshan 57. 【Result】Among twelve varieties, the fresh tuber yield of Pushu 20 was recorded as highest (33760.50 kg/ha) and it was 6.3% higher than the CK. The starch yield of Jinshu 3 was recorded as highest (5465.70 kg/ha) which was 6.07% higher than the CK. The taste quality of Jinshu 2 and Longshu 25 were the best (score 83), and 3 points higher than the CK. 【Conclusion】Pushu 20, Junshu 2 and Jinshu 3 were suitable for planting in east Fujian area and the similar ecological areas.
